Avicularia avicularia "Pinktoe" Another hobby classic that is frequently available as juveniles and adults, Avicularia avicularia, although jumpy, is typically docile and is great for beginners. This species is native to the northern half of South America and adults can have a legspan of 5". Spiderlings, juveniles, and adults are regularly available in the hobby and inexpensive. Being an arboreal species, height is more important than floor space and something, such as cork bark, should be provided for the spider to attach its web to. It will likely build a tubular retreat in a corner of the enclosure and will quickly retreat when disturbed. A hide is not necessarily and a water dish can be provided or the walls of the enclosure can be regularly (weekly) misted. This species does need higher humidity than other beginner's species and should also be provided with proper ventilation.
